Why this series hooks him
Cradle is the gold standard for progression fantasy — the genre where the entire point is watching the protagonist get stronger, smarter, and more capable in satisfying increments. Wight is the master of the power-up payoff.
The first book, Unsouled, is deliberately short — almost a proof of concept. It hooks him, then the series accelerates with each volume. By book three most readers are reading them back-to-back.
How to start
Unsouled (Book 1) is short enough to finish in a weekend and written to answer the question "why should I keep reading?" The answer it gives is very convincing.
