Why this series hooks him
Sanderson built his reputation on one thing: magic systems with rules. The allomancy in Mistborn — swallowing and burning metals to gain powers — is elegant, visual, and logical. Combat scenes are choreographed like action movies because you always understand exactly what each character can and can't do.
The first book is also a heist story. A crew of criminals with superpowers trying to overthrow a thousand-year-old god-emperor. That's it. That's the pitch.
How to start
The Final Empire (Book 1) is the recommended Sanderson entry point — better paced than his longer series, more contained, and with a villain so well-constructed you'll almost root for him.
