Why this series hooks him
Stormlight is for someone who finished Mistborn and wants to go deeper into Sanderson's interconnected Cosmere universe. The scale is genuinely epic — magic, war, ancient mysteries, and characters whose backstories unfold across thousands of pages.
This is the long game. Recommend it after he's already a reader, not as an entry point. The payoffs are enormous but require the patience to get there.
How to start
The Way of Kings (Book 1). Be honest with him that it's 1,000 pages and slow in the first quarter. Once it clicks, readers typically report staying up until 3am. That click usually happens around page 150.
