Why this series hooks him
The Expanse is the most grounded, scientifically credible space opera ever written — and also a great noir thriller. The first book, Leviathan Wakes, follows a burned-out detective and a cargo ship officer who stumble into a conspiracy that threatens all of humanity.
It has the scope of Star Wars and the tone of a detective novel. The Amazon show is excellent but stops after Season 3's storyline.
How to start
Leviathan Wakes (Book 1). Fans of the Amazon show should start with Book 4 (Cibola Burns) to get new material, but the books are richer.
